One Thursday evening in June, while procrastinating on the interweb, a strange thought entered my mind. At first I ignored it and pushed it away, but the more I pushed, the larger it grew until eventually  it developed into an an idea, and urge, an overwhelming desire. The desire to run. And, of course, to blog about it.

Before we get started though, you should probably know that I am not much of an exercise fiend. Ok, so I walk to and from work every day, which works out at about one and a half miles each way, but beyond that I’m pretty much a couch potato.

I eat badly, drink too much coffee and smoke hand rolled cigarettes. I sit at a desk for most of the day, except when I go out for a cigarette, and in the evenings I watch TV or mess around on my laptop until bed time.

Health and exercise are really not much of a priority for me, but for some reason I have got it into my head that I want to run.

So, I started this blog to help me focus on this goal and document my journey from walking three miles a day to running 5K, 10K or maybe even a full 26 miles and 385 yards marathon!

At the moment, I would struggle to run even the 385 yards, but as I’m setting myself this challenge, I might as well make it… well… challenging.

If you’d like to join me, follow my journey, or just pop by from time to time, please feel free to leave a comment. It’s always good to say hi.

    1. This running does seem to be kind of addictive like that. I find myself watching ultra running videos on YouTube and thinking, ‘I want to do that!’ – not this year though, obviously 😉

  1. Hi. My name is Brendan Farrell and I have recently started a blog on my running ventures. It’s also on WordPress but I can’t get the layout to the way I would like it. I’m just wondering did you have to upgrade before you could start doing things like adding sections, changing fonts or having links to your posts instead of having them all published on the home page?

    1. Hi Brendan. I’ve never upgraded mine but it depends on what theme you’re using. I notice you use the Eighties theme, which is a one column theme, so might be worth looking at some others if you want more flexibility.
Great blog by the way! 🙂

  2. Hey. I’m only just reading this now. Sincere apologies for not getting back to you. Spending a lot of time on this but I’ll definitely try a few different themes. Both yourself and https://runandjumpblog.wordpress.com/ have very good layouts. Thanks a million. I read your post today. Looking forward to the taper myself. I’ve got Paris on the day you’re running Brighton. I’ve gone as far as 34km. I’d like to go up to 36 or 37 but I won’t have the time this weekend unfortunately. So I think it’s taper time now.

    1. Hey, no worries. It’s good to play around with some themes and see what works for you.
Good to hear the marathon training is going well. I’m still not sure if I’ll up the distance at the weekend either, but will just head out and see how the running goes. Enjoy your taper. 🙂
