Still Here…

I realise that it has been a long time since I’ve written anything in the old blog, but I’m still here and still very much enjoying this running lark.

Admittedly, it has been tough getting back into running again. That C25K drive to strive and push myself to hit targets has finally run out of steam, but in its place has emerged something far more powerful, fulfilling and probably healthier in the long run – the realisation that I don’t have anything to prove any more, not even to myself.

My running is slow and sporadic these days, but it’s fun. I no longer feel the need to get a run in when I don’t really want to, or beat myself up because I’ve picked up yet another injury. In fact, with this new mind set, my injuries and niggles have significantly reduced and my enjoyment of running had increased.

Of course, I do still like to give myself little targets and goals, but it’s not the end of the world if I don’t reach them. Every run is an achievement in itself and a reminder that 44 is not as old as I once thought.

In fact, 44 is not that old at all, as I recently discovered when I joined a local football team for ‘older’ women. But more about that another time. For now, here’s my splits for this morning’s run.

So good to hear what you’ve been up to 🙂 I’ve given up on running – for now – in fact I’ve given up on almost all exercise and as you can imagine my weight has not gone in the direction I want. So my first goal is to get my eating back in line and lose some weight. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures in football!!

Great to hear from you. 🙂 Yeah, the weight gains quickly but can take a while to drop off – I swear I have a six pack and it’s just hiding under a couple of rolls of fat. 😉 But you’re right, once you get eating better it makes all the difference. I need to drop by and catch up with your quilting adventures too. I hope all is good with you and that you’re enjoying your break from running. 🙂

  2. HEY YOU!!!! I’m so with you on this!!!! No pressure and all of sudden the love of running falls into place! So kewl to have you back!!!! 44 is NO AGE!!!! I’m 54 and defo not counting! In fact hubby have decided to switch things around… and I am now 45 and bastard him, a mere 16 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣!!!!!
    You’ll have to wait till you hit 50 for this fun!

    1. When I was younger, my mum decided she didn’t want to be in her 40s so decided to add the two numbers together instead. I think at the time she ended up as 8 while I, as a 17 year old, was also 8!

  3. Lovely to see that you are still here. I haven’t been blogging as much as I would like but I’m still out there plodding away at parkrun with the York 10K and 10 mile thrown in.
    44 is not old, at the grand old age of 47 I have run sub-30 3 times this year and my 2nd, 3rd & 4th fastest times ever at parkrun. Glad you have found what works for you.

      1. I reduced my run/walk intervals down to 2 min run, 30 seconds walk to get under 30 minutes. It was hard and I don’t aim for it very often.
        Yes, Adam is still parkrunning with me. He got a PB of 28:06 over the Summer! A couple of runners we have met at parkrun have asked if they can run with him so he can go at a faster pace. I’m holding him back, lol.
